Mechanical Engineer
Lokeren, Flemish region, Belgium (on-site)
As a Mechanical Engineer, you design mechanical concepts and translate them into production- and certification-ready solutions. You take ownership of mechanical development from concept to industrialization and support field issues with structured root-cause analysis.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical parts and assemblies for EV charging systems, considering function, environment, durability, and manufacturability
- Create parametric 3D models and 2D technical drawings (e.g., Solid Edge or similar CAD)
- Select materials and manufacturing technologies (e.g., injection molding, sheet metal, extrusion) with a cost/quality mindset
- Perform and interpret simulations (strength, thermal, vibration where applicable) and translate results into design improvements
- Drive prototyping: follow up with suppliers, review parts, support builds, and iterate quickly
- Support certification readiness (e.g., IP/IK, CE-related mechanical requirements) through test preparation and design adjustments
- Analyze field issues, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurrence with structured documentation
- Contribute to DFM and cost optimization during ramp-up and volume production
- Participate in design reviews with cross-functional teams (electronics, software, industrial design)
Required skills and experience
- 3+ years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer (product development / industrialization)
- Strong experience with parametric CAD (Solid Edge strongly preferred; equivalent tools also relevant)
- Solid understanding of production processes and DFM principles
- Hands-on mindset: comfortable with prototypes, testing, supplier follow-up, and engineering trade-offs
- Good communication skills and a proactive, structured way of working
Extra plus points
- Experience with EV charging products (IP sealing, cooling concepts, vandal resistance, outdoor durability)
- Familiarity with mechanical compliance topics (IP/IK testing, documentation for certification trajectories)
- Knowledge/experience with PPAP and/or APQP processes
